Maps of Solar Eclipses from 1985 to 1989
A unique solar eclipse occurred on October 3, 1986. Classified as an annular-total solar eclipse, this eclipse was predicted to have a duration of 0 minutes and 0 seconds! This means that the Moon’s shadow cone just barely touches the Earth. Because of the Moon’s irregular surface, at maximum this eclipse displayed beads of sunlight around the Moon’s profile. An audacious eclipse flight was launched to witness and photograph this special eclipse. Even before GPS was available for precise navigation, the flight plan was perfectly executed.
