Maps of Solar Eclipses from 1995 to 1999
On June 30, 1973, the new Concorde supersonic jet was used to chase a solar eclipse across Africa with an amazing extended duration of 73 minutes of totality!
26 years after the astounding success of the 1973 flight, three more Concorde flights were dispatched for the total solar eclipse of August 11, 1999. Traveling at over Mach 2, these flights managed to extend the duration of totality to 4 and 5 minutes. However, the Concorde windows were small and the eclipse was 50 to 60 degrees high in the sky, so passenger viewing of totality was difficult.
This map is the original flight plan plotted for one of these Concorde eclipse flights. Read more at xjubier.free.fr/en/site_pages/solar_eclipses/TSE_19990811_pg02_Concorde.html
