Maps of Solar Eclipses from 2000 to 2004

The total solar eclipse of November 23, 2003 was historic as it was the first known occurrence when a total solar eclipse was witnessed by people on Antarctica. Dedicated eclipse observers successfully saw the eclipse from land expeditions on the white continent as well as eclipse flights and expedition ships in Antarctic waters.

On land, the Sun’s corona was very low and nearly on the horizon. Those who saw this spectacle enjoyed clear skies with bitter cold.
